TUNE BY THE HEADSTOCK. SIX STRINGS, SIX TICKS.

CentTune is a free tuner for your DAW. Play a string, and the peg to turn lights up on a guitar headstock, with an arrow for which way. Red is way off, amber is close, cyan is in tune.

How it works

Made for guitarists: you look at the guitar, not at a number.

01Play a string

AUTO finds the string you play and lights its peg on the headstock. Or click a peg to pick the string.

02Turn the way it points

The arrow shows which way to turn. Red is way off, amber is close, cyan is in tune.

03Get the tick

A string held in tune gets a tick and the next one is picked for you. Six ticks: all in tune.

04Any tuning

Standard, drop, 7-string and open tunings, DADGAD, or chromatic mode for any instrument.

What you get

  • AccurateWithin 0.05 cent on test strings from 41 to 880 Hz, low B included. Reference A from 432 to 444 Hz.
  • No latencyYour guitar passes through unchanged. MUTE silences it while you tune, like a tuner pedal.
  • Two viewsThe headstock, or a large meter with a button per string. The window scales by its corner.
  • Windows & macOSVST3 and CLAP on Windows 10/11; AU, VST3 and CLAP on macOS 10.15+, native on Apple Silicon and Intel.

FAQ

Yes, and it stays free. No time limit, no noise, no account and no email address: download it and use it in any project, commercial or not. CentTune is also how we introduce ourselves, so its window shows the news from Animus Vertex, such as a new plugin. You can turn the news off in that window.

Any host that loads VST3, CLAP or Audio Unit plugins: Ableton Live, Cubase, FL Studio, Reaper, Studio One, Bitwig, Logic Pro and GarageBand (AU) and others. Windows 10/11, 64-bit: VST3 and CLAP. macOS 10.15 or newer: AU, VST3 and CLAP, native on Apple Silicon and Intel.

Unzip the download and run the installer: CentTune-1.0.0-Setup.exe on Windows, CentTune-1.0.0.pkg on macOS. Then restart your DAW or rescan its plugins and load CentTune on your guitar track. Each zip has a short install guide, and the Windows one also the plug-in files for a manual install. The installers are not signed with a paid certificate yet: on Windows click More info, then Run anyway; on macOS open System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway.

No. The guitar passes through unchanged and with no latency: CentTune only listens. MUTE silences the output while you tune, like a tuner pedal. With its window closed it does no work at all.

On test strings from 41 to 880 Hz the reading is within 0.05 cent. CentTune measures the fundamental of the string on its own, so the slightly sharp harmonics of a stiff low string do not pull the reading. The reference A can be set from 432 to 444 Hz, 440 by default.

Standard and drop tunings down to Drop A, 7-string tunings, open G, open D and DADGAD. AUTO follows the string you play, or click a key on the headstock to pick a string. Chromatic mode shows the nearest note and how many cents off it is, for any instrument.

Only to read two small files from this site when its window opens: whether a newer version is out, and the news. It sends nothing about you, your computer or what you play. Details in the privacy policy.
